Apurva is a 2008 IIT Bombay graduate. He worked in Investment Banking for 4.5
years where he last was AVP in Credit Suisse Hong Kong. He has two failed
startups in the past. His first one was in animal husbandry. He started the second
one just after leaving Hong Kong, where he went to Beijing to learn Chinese and
then took a 68 day road trip from Hong Kong to Lucknow passing 14 places on the
way including places in Tibet and Nepal. All this to make a travelogue.
After coming back, he met up with friends from alma mater IIT Bombay. With two of
them – Prasanna Shevare and Dinesh Sain – he started Drona Aviation. Prasanna
and Dinesh have had >5 years experience then working with drones and won
awards globally (IMAV France, ICUG Spain, MICAV B’luru and Techfest, Mumbai).
We started the company as aerial cinematography company and then pivoted a few
times. After some market study, we pivoted to make Pluto, India’s first developer
drone platform. This is now used by schools and colleges across India.
Apurva is the CEO of Drona Aviation where he drives the business development and
strategy for the company.
